Painting On a Budget

Painting your house is something that you can do on your own if you want to save some money. Having the right paint will help you save more and maximize the use of your paint to its full potential. You also must keep in mind that just because you want an affordable paint, it doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice its quality.

Having the knowledge on how paints differ in quality and price will give you an edge on how to pick the right paint for your project even when your money is kind of tight. It can be a little bit confusing at first knowing the different kinds of paints but as soon as you get the hang of it, you’ll be glad to know that you tried learning about them.

In case you don’t know, but the price of a paint actually has a lot to do with the type of materials used in making them. The water-based latex type of paint is known to be affordable but it has a reputation for being hard to work with, especially when it comes to cleaning it up. The good thing about it is that it is a lot durable and it is so easy to get a smoother coat out of it.

There are paints that you can buy for around $20 per can whilst there are also paints that can cost you around $60 per can. The difference on the pricing is mostly determined on the amount of time that you will use to applying it to your wall.

This also involves the coverage of the paint, which is a big deal if you want to save money. You might find the $20 can of paint affordable but it takes more paint to cover an area. In that case, you might as well go with a pricier one that can cover your wall in one coating. You must know that most of the pricier paints have titanium in it, which results in excellent coverage than the cheaper ones. Paints with titanium won’t even require a lot of coating, which tends to save you more in using the amount of paint per can.

The disadvantage of buying a cheap paint is that most of them do not even have titanium at all, as it is mostly composed of clay. You will notice that it can take up to more than 3 coatings, which is just equivalent to 1 coating if you buy the ones with titanium.

At the end of the day, you might as well spend for something worth it even when it seems expensive at first glance. You will get more from an expensive or a higher graded paint than the ones made of clay. Always check the label of the paint before you buy it and make sure that you see titanium as part of its ingredients.
